Living Room
Categories: HouseWe took down the acoustic-tiled ceiling, pulled the lovely paneling off the walls and ripped up the carpet. To our pleasant surprise the hardwoods underneath were in great shape, it looks like they refinished them and carpeted right over. Sanded/spackled/painted the walls a chocolatey brown (we’d already bought the couch and chair so we wanted a color that would work with both).
The ceiling was a pain in the butt. The walls and ceilings are all the original plaster and lathe, and a 5′ x 6′ chunk of the ceiling was falling down. For a long time we had it held up in place with one of the furring strips from the original tiles. Then we cut out the section (talk about a dusty mess) and cut some 5/8″ drywall to fit. I wish I’d taken pics. It actually came out fairly well, and we papered it with textured ceiling paper, in the end I think it came out pretty nice.
