Living Room

October 28th, 2007

We took down the acoustic-tiled ceiling, pulled the lovely paneling off the walls and ripped up the carpet. To our pleasant surprise the hardwoods underneath were in great shape, it looks like they refinished them and carpeted right over. Sanded/spackled/painted the walls a chocolatey brown (we’d already bought the couch and chair so we wanted a color that would work with both).

The ceiling was a pain in the butt. The walls and ceilings are all the original plaster and lathe, and a 5′ x 6′ chunk of the ceiling was falling down. For a long time we had it held up in place with one of the furring strips from the original tiles. Then we cut out the section (talk about a dusty mess) and cut some 5/8″ drywall to fit. I wish I’d taken pics. It actually came out fairly well, and we papered it with textured ceiling paper, in the end I think it came out pretty nice.

Dining Room

October 27th, 2007

Why have a plain dining room? Why indeed… We started off same as the living room, took down the tile ceiling, ripped off the paneling, sanded/spackled the walls, and took up the carpet. We then bought some 1/4″ luaun and cut it up into 3′ tall panels to create a wainscotting. Nailed that up and painted it white. At some point in the future, I’ll build the little picture frame appliques to finish it off.

Then we wallpapered the room (and when I say “we” I mean “my father, Mr. Wallpaper”) a textured paper. I have some great shots of it drying below. Photography is not a hobby of mine. When we bought the house I swore no wallpaper would be present, and yet here we are: 2 rooms down, 2 rooms with wallpaper. Now I know how John Kerry felt.

We painted it a burgundy to tie it in with the living room and finished it off with a chair rail and crown moulding. We also added a chandelier (not nearly as simple to put up as you’d think…) and a decorative medallion.

The PFR Farewell Show

June 28th, 2006

Friday, June 23, 2006. The Prayers For Rain Farewell Show.

It’s only now I realize we should have done a benefit concert and passed around the guitar case. Damn hindsight.
Rich, Cave, and Jaime loaded all the gear in earlier that day. It’s nice to just show up and plug-in. I’m easy like sunday morning.
We had two solo acoustic performers open the show. One of Rich’s guitar students, and an amazing singer named Dee. I’ll try to find out more about her and provide a link.

The 03-04 lineup took the stage with Corey slapping the bass guitar as we played what we could remember. After a mysterious strobe-lit interlude, we noticed Tim (sans pimp ensemble) onstage, and the 05-06 lineup proceeded to drop the rock bomb on Central Park Grill, ending with everyone on stage playing the most precocious Dream Garden ever.

Have I told you lately, that I love you?
